TRIATHLON

Our first year as a Tri club

We started the season off early with Kellyanne Towns taking a podium at Oulton park Duathlon. On the same day Chris Green and Jonathon Kearsley took on Mow cop as part of Cheshire cat bike ride.

Mid April we had a good turn out at edge hill for the West Lancs sprint tri With Jonathon Kearsley, finishing in 8th the highest of the harriers followed by Stuart Hamilton, Chris Green, Darren Horrocks, Mark Dickinson, Alan and Pauline Taylor and Angela Hall.

In May, Mark Dickinson took on his first Olympic distance tri. We also had coach Kellyanne taking on Ironman Mallorca 70.3. A brutal bike course, one of the first for our dot watchers to follow. We also had athletes taking on some crazy bike rides like Paul Platt doing the Fred Whitton and Alan and Pauline doing the Birmingham 100.

Into June we had two athletes at Uk Ultimate half in Shropshire with Chris Green and Jonathan Kearsley. On the same day we had Darren Horrocks in the lakes taking on Epic man and Paul Platt in Italy climbing Stelvio pass in what he described as one of the toughest things he has ever done. A week later Amy Briggs was taking on her first 70.3 at Ironman Staffordshire followed by Kellyanne Towns taking on Lakesman and despite swimming too far and picking a tough course still managing to go under 6 hours. We also had a few out for the Wigan bike ride.

July we had Chris Green attempting ironman for the 4th time hoping to bring his completion rate to 50% and Jonathan attempting his first. Jonathon was great in the water even though he was disappointed not to be under an hour! Chris managed a swim PB. Jonathan took a tumble on the bike and Chris snapped his chain but both ended up on the run together dragging each other round.

August Andy Benn and his mates did LEJOG just under 1000 miles in 10 day definitely a bucket list ride I know a few would love to do. We had our biggest turn out at West Lancs Summer tri. Chris Mather making his Tri debut, “Ironsam” making his return to triathlon and Katie Green doing her first of two in two weeks. We will make a swimmer out of John Heyes and a cyclist out of Lisa yet! Stuart Hamilton put in a great performance after recovering from doing comrades marathon. Darren Horrocks and Shaun Cunliffe both beat previous times, Rachel Lawton and Phil Thorne also had a great day but the two outstanding performances where from Jonathan Kearsley 8th over all and Amy Briggs 2nd in her category. Next up Katie Green did her first 70.3 at sundowner a surprise Christmas present from Jonathan she had set herself a target of under 7 hours and managed to complete it in 6:47 but still wasn’t happy with her time on the bike and run.
