Hewitt Sisters Combined Event Success

Over in Stoke Amy Hewitt completed her first Heptathlon at the regional Combined Events Championships. Amy started with a bang with a new PB over 80m hurdles of 13.0s, an improvement of nearly a second! This was followed by solid performances in the HJ 1.53m, shot 9.74m and just outside a PB in the 200m 26.7s, leaving Amy 5th overnight going into the second day.

Day 2 for Amy saw a strong start with 5.41m in the long jump which brought her up to 4th. This was followed with a PB in the Javelin of 35.38m easily the best in the competition. Amy then completed the 7 events with 2.42.2s over 800m to finish 4th overall with 4380 points, the only first year U17 in the top 6.

Not to be outdone by her sister Lauren meanwhile did her first outdoor U15 pentathlon. A solid start in the hurdles of 13.0s followed by another solid performance of 8.68m in the shot. Then Lauren really got into her stride and smashed her high jump PB to win the competition with 1.53m, matching her sisters performance the day before. This left long jump and 800m with a brilliant 4.65m and 3.02.9s to finish. Lauren finished with a score of 2471 in 5th.

Both Lauren and Amy have now qualified for the English Schools Finals later on in the year. Fantastic effort girls!
