Lower YDL Match 2: 1st June Leigh Sports Village

Despite the challenging weather conditions during our second meeting for the lower YDL team, our young athletes showcased remarkable performances. Although the wind and rain tested our numerous gazebos, we stood strong together securing an impressive second place finish.
Here are the full results:
U15 Boys
Sprints and Hurdles
In the 100m it was fifth place for Charlie Stretton in the A race (14.5s), second place for Henry Morris in the B (13.8s) and Jacob Borkowicz finished third in the non-scorers on his debut (16.5s). In the 200m, a PB for Henry (27.6s) placed him third in the A race with Moses Wotherspoon running 32.0s for fourth in the B race. It was Mathew Trevor in the 300m, finishing in 49.0s for fifth place.
In the 80m hurdles, Sam Hodgkinson won the A race in 13.8s, with Jacob Borkowicz making a brave debut and winning the B race in 18.5s. Well done!
Distance
In the 800m, Henry Jeffs-Watts finished fourth in the A race (02:40.4) with Jack Marsh finishing third in the B race (02:43.1) and Mathew Trevor winning the non-scoring race (02:26.6). Zak Manir-Jolley outclassed the field in the 1500m taking a clear win (04:41.1), with Joshua Waide fifth in the B race (05:36.0) on his 1500m debut.
Jumps
Wins all round in the high jump with multi-eventer Sam Hodgkinson winning the A competition (1.60m) backed up by Moses Wotherspoon winning the B (1.40m - PB). Henry Morris jumped a PB (4.37m) for fourth in the long jump, with Moses coming second place (B), 3.67m. Finally, our pole vaulter Charlie Stretton won his competition vaulting 2.10m.
Throws
In the shot it was PB's for Harry Lamb (6.87m) finishing fourth A and Charlie Stretton (5.73m), winning the B. Sam Hodgkinson tried out the discus coming fourth with 12.87m, whilst Harry won the hammer (25.75m). Then it was Harry and Louis Ball in the javelin. Harry placing second (24.28m) and Louis winning the B (19.16m).
Relays:
A super fight all the way to the line in the 4x100m - well done team!

U15 Girls
Sprints and hurdles
In the 100m it was third place finishes for Elody Hill (13.8s) as the A runner with Ebony Hales running 15.1s as the B. Isabella Foxton finished in fourth in the non-scoring race with 15.5s. Elody then finished second in the 200m (29.3s), with Ebony finishing in fifth (33.2s). Evie Hampson ran a PB to finish third in the 300m (47.6s) with Skye Gordon finishing second in the B race (48.7s).
In the hurdles, Isabella Hunt ran a PB for fifth in the A race (17.7s) with Megan Rollins winning the B (14.6s).
Distance
In the 800m, Nancy Miller made her debut running 03:00.3 for fifth, with Thea Lucas coming second in the B race (02:53.3). Then wins all round in the 1500m, with Katie Lou Malley finishing in 04:57.8 in the A race with Maisie Cadman hot on her heels to win the B in 05:00.1.
Jumps
Skye Gordon and Evie Hampson won the A and B long jump competitions with 4.40m and 4.07m respectively, whilst Megan Rollins finished third in the high jump with a 1.35m PB, with Isabella Hunt making her debut and finishing second (B) with 1.25m. Sophia Bowden-McKay took the pole vault win with 2.00m.
Throws
Lots of athletes out of their comfort zones gaining the points in the throws. Ruby Gore and Isabella Foxton finished fourth in the A and B shot putt competitions with 6.20m and 3.86m respectively. In the discus, Skye Gordon threw 11.45m for third, with Ebony Hales throwing 10.33m for second (B). Finally, Elody Hill threw 7.10m for fifth in the javelin (a sneaky PB - sure she secretly enjoys it….).
Relays
4x100m - Ebony Hales, Evelyn Hampson, Elody Hill, Ruby Gore - 2nd (55.5s)
4x300m - Thea Lucas, Evelyn Hampson, Skye Gordon, Katie Lou Malley - 1st (03:16.0)
U13 Boys
Sprints
It was a third place finish for Zain Porter Alam in the 75m (11.6s), whilst Ryan Catton finished sixth in the 150m (25.5s).
Distance
Luke Ashcroft ran a PB to finish second in the 800m (02:34.8) whilst Ryan finished the B race in fourth place (02:51.9).
Jumps
Luke Ashcroft came fourth in the long jump (3.55m). Zain Porter Alam unfortunately failing to record a legal jump.
Throws
The boys tried their best to fill as many spaces as possible with so few of them. All throwers were new to their events. Luke finished fifth in the shot (5.29m) with Zach Heaton second B (4.67m). Zain finished fourth in the javelin (11.71m) with Zach second B (9.58m).
Relay:
4x100m - Ryan Catton, Zach Heaton, Luke Ashcroft, Zain Porter Alam - 6th (65.2s).
U13 Girls
Sprints and Hurdles
Emily Mason and Elizebeth Teslim Balogun both finished third in their 75m races with Emily running 11.1s (A) and Elizebeth 11.9s (B). Kathryn Trevor ran 13.6s as the non-scorer. It was then Elizebeth and Freya Ormshaw both finishing third in the 150m, with Elizabeth running 22.4s (A) and Freya 24.3s (B).
Emily Mason came third in the 70m hurdles in 13.4s with Erin Baron making her hurdles debut and finishing second in the B race with 14.4s.
Jumps
Emily jumped a huge PB to win the long jump (4.16m) with Matilda Darby also jumping a PB to win the B (3.47m). PB's all round in the high jump too with Freya Ormshaw second (1.20m) and Erin Baron second B (1.15m).
Throws
Elizebeth won the shot competition (6.84m) with Matilda winning the B (6.03m). Whilst Matilda placed second in the javelin with a huge PB (18.50m).
Relay:
4x100m - Emily Mason, Matilda Darby, Erin Baron, Elizebeth Teslim Balogun - 2nd (59.6s) - and another exciting fight to the line!!!
Well done to everyone who turned up, did everything that was asked of them and secured some really valuable points for the team making sure we stay up there in contention. Also thanks as always to parents and helpers - without your help this wouldn't be possible.
