Wigan Harriers wrapped up the season in style, turning out in impressive numbers for our final YDL match with promotion on the line!
Despite the usual end-of-season challenge of holiday absences, we were fortunate to field a strong and determined team - and they delivered! Our ever-growing community of supporters, complete with our signature village of gazebos, came ready to cheer us on.
With a fantastic win on the day and a second-place finish overall, we’ve secured promotion to Division One next season. What a way to finish - bring on the next chapter!

U15 boys
Sprints and Hurdles
Lucas Shaw finished 6th in the 100m (14.00) - his first competition for the club, whilst Charlie Stretton finished 4th in the 200m (30.10). In the 300m, Jack Marsh finished 6th (47.50). It was a win for Sam Hodgkinson in the 80m hurdles in a time of 13.00.
Distance
In the 800m, James Darby ran 02:22:30 for 2nd place, with Jack Marsh taking 3rd place in the B race (02:37:50). In the 1500m it was 4th place for Matthew Trevor (04:52:90) and in the B race also 4th place for Joshua Waide (05:24:30).
Jumps
Talk of the day was Charlie Stretton's huge PB in the pole vault (2.60m) for the win. When asked by our lead official Maxine had he been eating shredded wheat for his breakfast his astonished reply was……."Yes! Actually I have." Well done Charlie - loads more to come from you! Also producing a fantastic performance (and relatively new to the pole vault) was Moses Wotherspoon who won the B competition with a 2.00m vault.
In the long jump, multi eventer Sam Hodgkinson came 2nd with a 4.78m jump, with Charlie 4th (B) 3.53m. Sam then won the high jump (1.50m), backed up by Moses taking 2nd place (B) 1.35m.
Throws
Matthew Trevor came 2nd in the shot (8.43m) with James Darby winning the B (5.63m). In the discus it was Matthew again, taking 3rd place (17.10m), with Moses (new to discus) 2nd place B 12.26m. Finally to complete the throws, Matthew finished 5th in the javelin (22.54m) with a (very) nervous Lucas Shaw taking 3rd place (and some valuable points) as the B. What do you mean never again? Never say never!!

U15G
Sprints and Hurdles
Elody Hill finished 3rd in the 100m (13.70s), with Lenie Holland (first time competing) finished 2rd as the B runner (14.20s). Isabella Foxton finished 1st in the non-scoring race and ran a 14.50s PB. In the 200m, Elody finished 2nd (28.70s), with Skye Gordon also 2nd as the B (29.30s). In the 300m it was Katie-Lou Malley as the A runner finishing 3rd (45.90s) and Evie Hampson 4th (B) 48.50s.
Isabella Hunt took on the 75m hurdles finishing in 5th place (16.00s).
Distance
It was a triple win in the 800m, with Katie-Lou Malley 1st in the A race (02:26.90), Thea Lucas 1st in the B race, with a PB (02:43.10) and Emily Pennington 1st in the non-scoring race (02:50.90). Well done girls.
Maisie Cadman took a clear win in the 1500m (04:57.80), with Grace Harris in 2nd place as the B (06:33.90).
Jumps
Double wins in the long jump as Skye Gordon showed strong form in the A competition (4.49m) and Evie Hampson won the B (4.12m). Double wins also in the high jump with Skye finishing 1st (1.40m) and Isabella Hunt 1st (B) 1.25m.
Sophia Bowden-McKay earned some valuable points and an equal PB taking the pole vault win (2.10m).
Throws
In the shot, Ebony Hales finished 6th (4.18m), with Isabella Foxton 4th B (3.71m). Ebony finished 2nd in the discus with a PB of 13.22m, whilst it was also PBs in the javelin for Chloe Gallagher (4th - 10.76m) and Isabella Foxton (2nd B, 8.92m).

U13 Boys
Sprints
It was 5th for Archie Halliday in the 75m (11.20s) and 4th for Hugo Wilson (B) 11.90s. Archie then finished 4th in the 150m (21.70s) with Hugo 3rd (B) 24.10s (PB).
Distance
Luke Ashcroft won the 800m with a PB (02:27.10), with Carter Hunter 5th B (03:15.80). In the 1200m, Jak Smith took 4th with a big PB (04:11.90), with Ryan Catton 3rd B (04:28.40).
Jumps
PBs in the long jump for Luke Ashcroft (2nd, 4.11m) and Carter Hunter (5th B, 2.84m). Luke then placed 3rd in the high jump (1.15m) seeking valuable guidance from coach Margaret, with Archie Halliday 2nd B (1.10m).
Throws
It was 5th for Ryan Catton in the shot (3.95m), whilst in the javelin, Hugo Wilson threw a PB for 4th (20.48m) and Carter Hunter was 2nd, B (9.89m).
Relays:
4x100m - Luke Ashcroft, Archie Halliday, Carter Hunter, Hugo Wilson - 3rd - 60.30s.
U13G
Sprints and Hurdles
A PB for Elizabeth Teslim-Balogun saw her finish 3rd in the 75m (10.90s) with Lexi-Belle Conradie 3rd B (11.30s). Kathryn Trevor as the non-scorer finished 3rd with a PB (12.70s). In the 150m, Lexi ran a (wind assisted) PB 22.60s for 3rd with Elizabeth winning the B race (21.70s).
Getting some great hurdling experience, Erin Baron ran a (wind assisted) PB in the 70m hurdles to finish 3rd (13.40s) with Kathryn Trevor (first hurdle competition) finishing 2nd B (17.90s).
Jumps
Lexi came 3rd in the long jump (3.77m) with Matilda Darby unfortunately failing to record a legal jump as the B - re-enforcing her doubts as to whether they should actually let people do long jump in the rain…………wet sand issues, etc. Erin came 2nd in the high jump (1.15m).
Throws
Matilda finished 2nd in the shot (6.50m) with Elizabeth winning the B (6.20m). Matilda also came 2nd in the javelin (15.68m) with Kathryn Trevor 3rd B (6.94m).
Relays:
4x100m - Elizabeth Teslim-Balogun, Lexi-Belle Conradie, Matilda Darby, Erin Baron - 2nd - 59.80s.
Special shout out to ‘assistant coach’ Matilda Darby who was helping to get people into places on the day. Not necessarily the right people, or the right places, but her heart was in the right place! Thanks Tilly - we can work on it!
