Northern Championships Success

This weekend it was the turn of our U13/U15 athletes to compete in the Northern Champs at Sheffield and great to see a strong turnout from the club.

First up, in the U15 girls…..

Emily Wilson picked up the club’s only medal in the pole vault with a 2.30m vault securing the bronze having just finished her long jump competition jumping 4.14m.

Meanwhile Lauren Hewitt jumped the third best distance in the same long jump competition, finally breaking the 5m barrier with a 5.03m jump and narrowly missing out on a medal due to count back. Lauren also ran an equal PB of 10.02 in her 60m hurdles, plus threw a PB in the shot (9.82m) placing her 4th in that event.

For our other U15 girls it was a day of nerves with athletes from John’s group competing indoors, some for the very first time. However this didn’t seem to hold them back!

Evie Hampson jumped a 4.03m PB in the long jump before running PBs in her 200m and 60m (31.03, 9.18).

Chloe Skett jumped close to her PB in long jump and ran a 200m PB (31.37).

Skye Gordon jumped a PB of 1.35m in the high jump, which was interrupted by her 200m where she was close to her PB.

A great day for Elody Hill saw her set a strong PB in the 200m (29.14), her first run on an indoor track and after a stumble in the warmup. She then also set a PB of 8.58 in her first 60m race, which was good enough to earn a semi final place where she equalled that time.

In the U15 boys……

Josh Roberts, also in his first indoor competition, smashed his 200m PB with 26.35 and was unlucky to miss out on a semi final place in the 60m by 0.01 seconds (8.09)!

Finally………

Our only U13 athlete was Charlie Stretton who stepped out like a pro and missed out on a semi final place by the narrowest of margins (30.82). Charlie also ran a strong 60m race, however the results are yet to be shared for that event.

Fantastic to see such a strong turn out of athletes all supporting one another. This is what it’s all about.

A huge well done to everyone!
