Northern Championships

Plenty of finalists and pbs achieved by Wigan Harriers at the recent Northern Indoor Championships. 

Congratulations to Claudia Berry and Amy Hewitt who both won titles at the weekend. 

Claudia won the U20 Pole Vault with her second best vault ever of 3.30m. 

Amy added the U20 Triple Jump title (11.13m) to the U17 title she won two years ago and also made the Long Jump final, trying out a new run up. 

Also in medal form and indoor PB was Yasmin Baker with 13.29 for silver in the U20 shot, whilst Emily Wilson vaulted 3m also for silver in the U17 vault. 

Sticking with the U20s, Corey Middleton, 60m H 8.60 and Gracie Scott, 9.14m Shot, both finished 5th with Gracie recording indoor pbs in the Shot, Long Jump, 4.66m and 400m 64.14. 

Holly Capstick 60m 7,90 and Owen Baron 52. 71 400m picked up 6th places with Owen running a pb over 60m 7.41, as well. 

Isobel Dyson was a bit down on her usual 400m times due to a cold with 66.41. 

In the Seniors Bekah Hopper smashed her Shot pb by 70cm with 11.28 for 5th whilst para athlete Sam Dyson threw 6.19 in the Senior Men for 12th.

At U17, and despite not at his best Sam Hodgkinson still made three finals, High Jump Long Jump and Hurdles with a best placing of 6th in the High Jump 1.55m 

Lauren Hewitt gained 6th place in the Shot 9.47m and with a brand new long jump technique just missed out on the top 8. 

Sky Gordon was another just missing out on the Long Jump final but achieved a pb of 4.85m whilst Ruby Gore and Elody Hill both made the U17 60m semi finals with 8.44 and 8.49.

England Para & Combined Events Championships

Sam Dyson won the England Athletics Para Shot Championships at Sheffield this weekend. 

Competing against athletes with a range of disabilities Sam came fourth in the competition with 6.91m but won overall when Raza points were added to equal out the differing Para categories. 

Competing in the England U20 Pentathlon Gracie Scott finished 18th. First indoor pentathlon, for Gracie saw a pb over 60m hurdles plus a shot pb of 9.37m. Total 2480 also a pb.
