The sun was out for a second weekend in a row for our athletes. This time it was the first outing for our seniors in the first Northern League of the season at Macclesfield.
Despite having a small team there was some impressive performances starting with the men. Will Jackson, our jumping sensation is making 2m clearances a habit now in the high jump, taking the win as well as an impressive 12.31m in the triple jump, also securing maximum points. His event total didn’t stop there, Will also finished 4th in the long jump just shy of 6m and even threw a javelin!
Leo Reid unfortunately picked up an injury halting his afternoon of throwing, luckily some great team spirit from Connor Fletcher and Chairman Karl Hopper filled in some of the gaps.
In the 400m Ben Nolan finished 3rd in a time of 50.9s and the return of Adam Harvey in the 400m B string 400m (52.6s) took maximum points.
Jeff Darbyshire, the men’s team player of the day, took part in the 100m, 200m and the long jump as well as being part of the winning 4 x 400m relay with Joseph Rees Gara, Connor Fletcher and Adam Harvey.
Onto the women’s team and a debut in the black and red for Skye Verwey and an impressive one at that. Taking the win in the 400m in a time of 58.2s.
Annabelle Taylor, returning from injury finished 3rd in the 100m hurdles (19.7s) and threw over 8m in the shot.
Millie Forrest throwing above her weight in the shot (literally) and another solid throw over 22m in the discus.
Our women’s team player goes to Ellie Hopper who, despite her poles not arriving at the competition for her in arguable her strongest event, went on to fill gaps in the long jump, high jump and even the javelin.
Unfortunately, due to lack of numbers on both the athlete’s side, officials and volunteers we find ourselves at the bottom of the table after the first match. Our next fixture is at Wavertree on Sunday 18th June. Any seniors, under 20s and second year under 17s that are available please let us know as soon as possible.
