PROMOTION!

Saturday saw the last Lower YDL match of the season and………………



WIGAN GOT PROMOTED!!!!!

After what started as a complete washout with the rain, every athlete who had declared their availability turned up and fought hard for a 2nd place finish.


During extremely challenging conditions, team spirit was in abundance from both athletes

and parents. Amongst the highlights of the day was witnessing a complete turnaround from Charlie S, in begging to home as soon as he got there, to having a beaming smile by the end of the day! This is what it’s all about. Oh…..and Emily (amongst others) laughing at what the weather had done to my hair!


First up…………U15 boys

Standout Performances:

● James Pennington ran a storming 25.4 200m to win the B race.

● William Ashcroft knocked 6 seconds off his 800m time (2.15) to win the B race in

tough conditions.

● Matthew Hayton - 3rd 100m A (12.6), 3rd 200m A (27.1), 2nd 80mh B (14.8)

● Zain Elfarmawy - 2nd 100m B (13.2), 6th 80mh A (14.0)

● James Pennington - 6th Shot A (6.53m), 6th Long jump A (4.53m)

● John Hassan - 2nd 300m A (42.7), 2nd 800m A (2.11)

● Alexander Glenn - 4th 1500m A (5.25), 6th Javelin A (14.34), 4th High Jump A

U15 Girls

Standout Performances:

● Lauren Hewitt threw a 6m PB in the javelin from last years’ distance after a recent

return to training in that event, winning the A competition (21.15m)

● Ava Wareing set a PB in the 3k shot to come 2nd in the A competition (7.38m). Ava

also added well over a metre to her previous javelin PB to win the B competition

(14.24m)

● Chloe Skett ran a PB in the 75m A race to come 4th (11.1)

● Elody Hill set a strong PB in the 150m after some pre race nerves (22.1)

● Skye Gordon ran a PB in the 70mh to finish in 4th place in the A race (12.8), Skye

also set a new PB in the High Jump with 1.30m to finish 2nd in the A competition -

fantastic debut in that event!

As a great finale to the day, Wigan’s relay teams were on fire!


Thank you to all athletes and parents for your support and commitment to these league matches. I hope you have all found these meetings as enjoyable as I have. You should all be very proud. Let’s build now for next year.
